Help support UNL Microbiology
The mission of the UNL Microbiology Program is to provide a world-class education through the exploration of fundamental principles that underpin microbial life and training utilizing research and experiential learning to a diverse and inclusive student body in preparation for interdisciplinary careers in microbiology where graduates translate knowledge to diverse careers in industries ranging from health and medicine, food, agriculture, energy, to the environment.
Vision:
Microbiology is an interdisciplinary cross-college program that integrates faculty across the University of Nebraska—Lincoln campus to:
- Educate and train a technically skilled workforce competent with professionally defined core concepts that enable students to develop a successful career in Microbiology.
- Provide experiential learning opportunities for UNL students in Microbiology across various careers.
- Facilitate student interactions between diverse faculty across colleges at the UNL through curricular and extracurricular activities.
To support our microbiology students and the preparation for careers in Microbiology we have developed the Microbiology Achievement through Research and Valuable Experiential Learning (MARVEL) program and initiated a UNL Microbiology Research Symposium. The MARVEL program aims to educate and prepare students with hands-on experience in research laboratories and other experiential learning communities while interfacing and working with UNL microbiology faculty and staff. This program has grown to support 52 workshop and 148 research symposium participants. In 2024 we will be using funds to support activities affiliated with these efforts including the MARVEL workshop, UNL Microbiology Research Symposium, and experiential learning awards.
